amac is so right. Mr. Bowan has done some credible things but he's also done some not so credible things. The "victim" routing does nothing for his credibility. Unfortunately the man is a weak reed to place much hope on.

The PO and CO visit me....new light!!??
by truman ini am just going to have to start keeping my front door closed.
today, i had it open, and there was no way to pretend i wasn't home when the two 'brothers' rang my door bell.
actually, they had been by last saturday, too, but the door was closed that day, and i didn't answer it.

dedalus I'd have to dig out a lot of references but if you do a search on "community responsibility" you'd probably come up with a bunch. In decades in the Org I never once had the idea that every individual or even nation had to be reached and I would be willing to wager that you won't find any such statement in the publications any where. Russell one time said that just preaching in New York City was the equivalent of preaching to the whole world because there were representatives of every nation and race there. There have been a number of other cases in which the statement has been made the in effect you could say the prophecy about preaching to the entire inhabited earth has already been fulfilled.
And, yes, I do question the Organizational authenticity of the remarks.

I can't believe you guys are so gullible and that you know so little of the organization's teachings on this matter. There is nothing new about this.

Sorry, I don't believe one word of this. There is no such "new light" on Muslims.

I'm reading a concise history of the Russian revolution and I'm starting a book on Krakatoa next. I like Turtledove as well, the whole lot, if you like his stuff you might try SM Stirling.

mass murder by a Witness
by Jerry Bergman inhas anyone read the book jungle gods by carl von hoffman?
it tells of a watchtower convert who decided that he needed to start armageddon on his own and ended up killing over a hundred persons before he was caught.
it is now long out of print but i found several copies using addall.com (a search engine) and on abe.com.

Other historians? Names please. "Other?" are you a historian? I thought you were a professional Watchtower detractor.

I would say this guy needs some counseling of some kind at the very least. Not sure about recidivism. From personal observation most of the Witnesses involved in this kind of thing seem to be situational rather than serial. This guy just may have a bolt loose rather than being a real predator. Don't know enough about the situation. If he's a predator I'll be happy to throw the switch myself.

Stock Market / Is it gambling ??? A Question Jo-ho's are defensive on.
by run dont walk ini always remembered when they would talk about how it is wrong to buy lottery tickets, or home lotteries or shriner's tickets, because this was considered gambling.. but when it comes to the stock market, well that is a different story, they (the jo-ho's) say it is investing not gambling.. do you think it was right for a jw to invest in enron, worldcom.
qwest, bre-x (canada) etc.. they will say well we did not know it was a fraud, well are you not suppose to investigate before you invest, by buying into these companies are you not supporting their beliefs and ways.. and why would you invest in your future when armageddon is going to be anyday now.. jesus said "do not asssociate with workers of lawlessness.
" what would you call the stock market.. how much does the watchtower invest with their billions ???

Nathan Natas I read the article. I haven't read any kind of rebuttal and I don't know if there is one. Yes, I know about OJ, but in most cases I think the jury probably gets it right. Nothing like the elements associated with OJs trial. It just distubs me that all these people the excoriate congregations if they don't turn these matters over to the authorities aren't prepared to accept the actions of the authorities. If we're hnonest I think we have to admit that the attitude here is if he was a Witness he was guilty, period.
